Yesterday afternoon I joined with some fellas on a trip to the movie theater where we watched the new movie Troy. I thought it was a good movie overall, the acting was fairly good and it kept to the original tale well. However, many others I have talked with have not liked the movie at all. I believe this is because they have never read the Iliad and do not completely understand all the themes of the story which are not portrayed in the movie very well. Themes such as love, hate, glory, revenge, brutality and so forth. I thought the movie was also lacking in the character development area - where the book is not lacking. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book and hope others like the movie for what it is - an imperfect representation of a tale that is incomplete in itself possibly. I think others may have also not liked the movie because it doesn't reveal an easy happy ending and overall point that so many movies give us rather easily today. Movies today are easy. this movie cannot be as easy. The points are unclear and lightly touched upon by one liners in the movie from the original transcript. This may lead to confusion for many people because they do not want to ponder the deeper issues of the movie but would rather just have them explained as is the typical for hollywood. Overall I give the movie a "B+" for sticking to the tale as close as possible in a three hour period. The torjan horse was very impressive too!" Well that's my synopsis of the movie. The website is troymovie.warnerbros.com and I think it is poorly created. However, it exists and is worth checking out for a second - the navigation is difficult so have fun...I'm off for a walk and to clean my room
