Snow and Lightning

In Kansas City they received 10+ inches of snow. In all my years in Missouri we never saw that much snow, I leave and look what happens! That was on Wednesday I believe - maybe Tuesday? On Thursday night I wondered if Friday would bring our first "snow day" here in Boston...as I sadly watched the forecast call for less and less snow. What choice did I have but to get up and go on Friday? I bundled up, sporting the snow suit I bought last year, gloves, stocking cap, shoes, and marched out into the light snowfall. By the time our day started the snow had really begun to pick up outside. By noon, it had turned mostly to sleet/rain with ourbursts of snow and ice. Then, in the afternoon something happened I had never seen - snow and lightning!! It started snowing with incredible force! The wind was gushing everywhere and the snow coming down and falling off building tops was circling in the air. Then, as I'm in the middle of teaching I see a bright flash fill our room, followed by the echoed sound of thunder. this continued until around 4 in the afternoon. I don't know if this is what we call a Northeasterner or a blizzard or what - but it was a snow storm to say the least. I've uploaded some pictures on Flickr if you wanna look - what a day!! The walk home was quite successful as I only took one wrong step, ending up in snow to my knee! Looking at the reports it appears some places in Boston got as little as 8 inches and other parts of New England got as much as 17 inches, with reports of snow coming down at a rate of 5 inches per hour, thank goodness I ride the "T" to work!
