I posed the question, "Who did I want to hook up at the end of Dawson's Creek, Dawson and Joey or Pacey and Joey?" Well I can see how this can be a tricky question...even to those who know the answer. Because it is an answer that requires a justification. Allow me to explain my opinion of DC's final days...
Yes, it would have been great for Dawson and Joey to live together forever - they're soul mates, right? But here's the thing...and you see this most clearly in the last episode. At the beginning of the series Dawson and Joey belong together and are meant for one another. However, the show evolves to the point where this is no longer the case. (just as we ourselves grow together and apart on a daily basis) Dawson, especially in the last episode, has become his own man to the point that he no longer needs Joey. For him, at this point, it is just a matter of preference and fun, but not really the need of love with one another. While he loves her he does not need her. Pacey on the other hand needs Joey. Without her he will just dwindle away into unhappiness. Joey lights up everything for Pacey. This is most clear when Joey, Pacey, and Dawson talk at the end of the last episode. Dawson is sitting there in his office, happy, content, in control of himself, and viewing towards the future. Now he still has his friendship with Joey and Pacey but he no longer needs the intimacy with Joey for himself. Therefore, I wanted Pacey and Joey to hook up because Pacey is nothing without her...at least not inside. Dawson has grown into a man for someone else. As I look at my own life - I hope this same idea holds true, it has before...it will again right? absolutley, and even better again (just like before)!!
