Well the next America's Cup races are about three years away - actually 838 days away to be exact. I love the art and culture of sailing, even though I haven't the slightest clue about it to be completely honest. But I love it. Two years ago I got to watch the races on TV!! That was a blast. Several of my friends came over on my birthday - they humored me as we watched the races all night while enjoying a few drinks.
In the future, it is an aspiraction of mine to learn to sail...and sail well. This all started when I was a teenager. I remember watching the movie "Wind" with my parents in the theater. This wasn't exactly a blockbuster, but it lighted a sailing passion inside me. That mixed with the fact that my parents actually did sail - I want that to become an aspect of my life. I love the ocean, the water, the wind, the solitude and community with nature - I feel it is something I was born to do, or at least enjoy. There was this time that I wanted to actually become a professional sailor - but didn't have the slightest idea of how to apporach that. At this point I believe it is past the point where I could have grown up to become a natural. I think the men and women who are naturals are so because they grew up by the sea, on the deck of a beloved boat. They feel the movements of the wind, they can sense the pulse of the sea. They have a heart for sailing because it is part of their inner selves, more than just a passion - sailing is part of their identity. It perhaps may always be a dream - but I want to make it a dream that comes true, someday. But as always, dreams come true, not free!
