Consumerism vs. Marriage

In college I wrote an essay about the effects of consumerism on marriage. My roommate gave me a book not to long ago entitled "Why We Buy." Ideas of our culture and their affect on some of our most sacred spaces really fascinates me - I might post the thesis I wrote on her and get some feedback or responses. It's kinda long but perhaps I can cut down to some of the general premises. I think doing some studies about the intertwistings of christianity and secularism workingwithin the same culture and how a person is and is not separated because of their beliefs. Or, how they believe they are living out their faith when maybe they aren't...or they are. I don't know, just some interesting ideas that are tough to put into words. Other areas to do some thinking are semiotics and their impact and origins in our world.
