February the Fifteenth
Well my birthday started off bright and early...a little after 5AM now that my roommates and I are hitting the gym before work every morning. But, I feel good - until about three in the afternoon, when it's naptime. Work that day was fun and my kids sang me happy birthday once they found out, despite me saying, "okay, okay, let's move on." They just kept singing, little rascals. After work I caught up with my friend JB and he treated me to dinner at a very nice Italian restaurant where I had an amazing plate of lasagna and delightful dessert thanks to Rob, who oddly enough was there with his family. Bowman and I had some interesting conversations as usual, yet I couldn't remember a thing the entire night. Each time we started a new topic I'd forget my point or some detail I wanted to add. Though I do remember a very interesting conversation involving the idea of "singleness" from a follower's world and practical mindset. It's difficult in this culture to remain single throughout your life...and we discussed how that would look and what model of life that would take. Afterwards we headed off to "Beer and Theology" where a group of us meets to discuss and pray for the spiritual life of Boston. As I walked in with JB I was shocked to see Emily, Laura, and Kim - thinking, hey what are the odds they're here too!? Awesome. Then, I saw Sam and realized, Surprise Birthday!! It was a great night with some terrific friends and gifts. Laura and Kim gave me a journal to start working on a book in the not too distant future. (Yes, I have the idea, just need the research) It was a really good surprise and one of the better birthdays of my life. One of the best questions I received was, "How have you dealt with your birthday being a day after valentine's Day?" but I'm skipping that question on here to answer How does it feel to be 25? I'm stealing my mom's viewpoint - "oh, to be 25 again and living in Boston...doesn't get much better than that." I wholeheartedly agree - living in the city of blinding lights. Even three years ago who would have thought? Thanks everyone for the cards and phone calls, you made my day wonderful, especially talking with so many of you I haven't talked with in a long time - hope you're doing well and I'll try to catch up with you soon.
"But then, shall I never get any older than I am now? That'll be a comfort, one way -- never to be an old man - but then - always to have lessons to learn!"
"Unbirthday? I'm sorry, but I don't quite understand. It's very simple. Now, thirty days has Septem -No. wait... An unbirthday, if you have a birthday, then you - ha ha ha, She doesn't know what an unbirthday is!"
Oh yeah, one of the best gifts I received come from a dear sweet friend, you can see my gift at BJ's blog
