Skiing For the Weekend (Part II)

Trips away from home are always an interesting use of our time. Being out of town as much as I have in the past month...and coming up - I have decided that the most difficult aspect is definitely returning home. It's usually accompanied by emotions of anxiety, comfort, and depression. I think because I want to continue living in vacation time - time that is free from responsibility - but more so, time where I can be selfish. I can take care of me, have some adventure, and do what I want to do. It's rough returning home, but we gotta do it.
The trip wasn't the same as our former trip two years ago. Nor was it the same as my trip with Annie to Duluth last year - it was different. I can't quite put my finger on why...I mean obviously the things that happened, people on the trip, etc are all different. I just mean the feel of the trip was extremely different - as was the purpose in going. Afterwards I didn't feel this trip was entirely about enjoyment as much as realization and encouragement. But it was fun. We left on Thursday after work. We drove out to Burlington Colorado where we stared at one of the $19.95 type of hotels. The pool their was interesting...I've never seen liquid tetnis before. The door didn't lock and only one lamp worked in the room. The other lamp had magical powers that enabled it to lean over while defying gravity; I call it the leaning lamp of Burlington. Friday we work up early and arrived in Steamboat in the afternoon. Basically we spent the evening eating out, getting our skiis, and chatting. Oddly enough we received our skiis for a mere 18 pack of coors light - more of a barter system in Steamboat then cash only. We could have received them for an eighth of marijuana too - but that didn't really seem our style. Not to mention I don't even have the street talent to know where to get marijuana - that's right, I'm not very cool. Well Saturday consisted of skiing and then dinner - where I got sick from possible food poisoning earlier that day - blah that stunk, no pun intended. It's funny in the middle of sickness how you are pretty much willing to give God anything he desires if he'll make you better. Long night for sure. Well we left on Sunday night to Denver where we stayed in some family friend's house. Watched the 1980 USA vs. Russia game, a classic. Along with the NBA all-star game...I called it a night early and we came home on Monday. Good trip. This is a basic summary but there were some excellent discussions, revelations, encouragement, and lessons yet to be learned that happened on the trip. Too much to go into - alright you guessed it...we spent the whole time talking about girls. Kidding obviously, but it was good for me in realizing more about myself and the world I live in.
Funny how things keep on ticking...when you think that one event closed all the doors - it actually opened all the windows, backdoors, and turned on each light in every room. What an amazing God to turn our shame into His Glory.
