This week was the end of a beautiful summer and the beginning of transitioning back into work. It has been a marvelous week, full of meeting new people, devotions, and thoughts of classrooms dancing in my head. We began on Monday and luckily I have a travel companion, Kristin, who travels with me on the red line to work everyday. Commuting is so different here. Last year I spent most of my time in the car, a good half hour drive to school and then the same home. Its roughly the same amount of time here - the difference is I get a good ten minutes or so walking along with being with a ton of people the whole ride there. Now, I rarely engage in conversation with anyone, especially that early, but there is a sense of community none the less in comparison to sitting in a car. We begin each day at work with a devotion - completely different working environment than I've ever prepared myself for...and I really like it. There is a good sense of community forming around this new job, and I'm eager to begin the year in another week. This picture above is an older picture of the school before it was purchased by Park Street Schools. The only difference is the air conditioners are removed, there's a sign out front that says Park Street School, and obviously the inside is "all encompassingly" different. Oh, and Cheers is right down the street, like one block! So, perhaps after work I can go somewhere where everyone knows my name!! The inside of the school is amazing, absolutely amazing. I have an overhead projecter that is attached to my ceiling hooked up to the computer classrooms, of which I have three brand new ones. Here are some pictures of the school: This is a shot of the Science Lab Fireplace, huge huh? Here's the rest of the Science Lab where Kendra will work. Here's the Library and the Gymnasium with an actual climbing wall. The entrance is extremely nice along with the hallways which are a bit confusing...but what school isn't? Finally, we have arrived at the classrooms. Here is a shot of one with a fireplace and here is Mr. Anderson's 1st grade classroom!! As you can see there are a lot of ladders, boxes, wires dangling down, and other things...but the basic structure is there for you to see. I will update the pictures after everything is set up for good. I am very impressed with this place, it's ridiculously nice!
This week we have Monday off but I'll attempt to get into the classroom and get some more work done. Next Thursday is our grand opening and ribbon cutting event. The Tuesday after that we begin. I hear I have some wonderful students with excellent personalities. Overall it seems like a worthwhile year and I'm very excited about the differences and growth I'm seeing in the potential of this year already. Those of you thinking about moving somewhere or starting a different part of life - let me highly recommend up here...but have some money, cause dang this place is expensive.

Tyler it looks so Awesome,, the kind of room and building I always imagined you working in... old with a lot of class, and just a enough modern things to make it fun!! I'm so happy for you!..
love mom
looks kind of lame to me. how are you going to teach with all those ladders in the way? how can you think about the fireplace when there is a harry potter book to be read... or two...
